Food Photography - Lunch at Tucker Duke's Lunchbox

The name "Tucker Duke's Lunchbox" had crossed my path a few times and was promptly added to my "Places to Try" list. Then one Saturday night Alberto casually suggested TD's since a friend had been raving about it. I don't kid myself into thinking that I'm a well versed foodie. That said, I follow some fantastic local food blogs (here, here and here) and try to stay in tune with what's happening in the world of South Florida food (here, here and here). The fact that my boyfriend (the ultimate culinary creature of habit) was suggesting this new to the map eatery... we had to go.

That first night was indulgence city for both Alberto and myself; wine, craft beer, nacho tater tots, a monstrous burger, a blue plate shrimp and grits, and a fried apple fritter with apple butter sauce. Needless to say, we had found a new go-to spot.

So when this past Saturday afternoon rolled around and both he and I were starving, I suggested we head back over to Tucker Duke's (this time with my camera). The food and beer were once again bountiful and tasty. I had a Stiff Tongue and Alberto had a Jai Alia IPA, both from Cigar City Brewing. (I've realized recently that I'm starting to really enjoy this Craft Beer Movement.)

For food we passed on apps this time around now knowing how large the portions are. He opted for a Jose, a taco salad that arrived as an actual taco. He threatened to pick it up and eat it like a taco but never delivered. His review of "I'd eat it again" is as much as I'm going to get out of him. That said, he demolished it and that's always a good sign.

As for me, although it was a hard toss up I ultimately went with the Louis Louis (the ultimate Turkey Club) with a side of pimento mac-and-cheese and bacon. I call the Turkey Club the "Grandma Special" since my Grandma lovedddddddd them. I hold them in high regard and am therefore, admittedly, overly critical of the sandwich. I'm happy to say that Tucker Duke's did not disappoint. Although it was a much different take than what I'm used to, I thoroughly enjoyed it (and continued to enjoy it late Saturday night as I had to take home half of that bad boy!). As for the mac-and-cheese, I was shocked that Alberto didn't try to eat my entire smokey, yummy tub. It was that level of cheesy-ooey-gooey goodness that forces you to take a piece of bread and use it to clean out every last drop of sauce.

All in all, I'm glad to have not only discovered Tucker Duke's but to also have them 10 minutes away from me! What new local spot are you obsessed with?
I have to also mention that the team working there is extremely sweet. The girls were happy to help and didn't look at me like a freak as I darted around the restaurant snapping photos.
