Pursuit of Happy: Barkland Dog Park

Although we have a dog park 2 seconds from our house, we make a little bit of a further journey to visit the Barkland Dog Park in Parkland. This is without a doubt the BEST dog park. The only thing it's missing is a beach (which they happen to have at Canine Beach in Fort Lauderdale).

Puppy Parents alike can all agree that good dog parks are good and bad ones are just sad. I feel very lucky to have such a gorgeous park close by that I can take my little man to. Like many standard dog parks they have a separate play area for smaller dogs (>25lbs) and larger dogs (<25lbs). They have obstacles set up, large open spaces for catch, water fountains for both the 2-legged and 4-legged visitors and the oh-so-necessary "mess stations" are scattered all around the park.

Because Oliver sorta falls on the weight line we bounce back and forth between the big side and the small side - he seems indifferent to either one but I prefer the larger side. Our little Oliver has sever separation anxiety and is just a touch anti-social. Although we do our best to mingle with the dogs in our apartment complex, I find that the dog park is a much better way to really get him associating with other dogs. I'm happy to report that this visit had several bum sniffs, a few rounds of catch and one face-to-face contact with a beautiful spaniel.  Here's hoping my immersion therapy is working!
